We decided to add puppies to our Spring. We bred Nelli with the chocolate lab next door. She had a big litter of 11 puppies Thursday, April 10 into the early morning hours of April 11. We stayed up and monitored the delivery with our video monitor till about 3 am. We went to bed thinking she was done. When Jake got up to check on them at 5:30am we had two more! We ended up with 7 chocolate and 4 black. The first puppy born however never moved much and died within a few hours. The next two days we lost two more. Nelli was trying to feed them all and transition to a new mommy. She only has 8 breasts so once we were down to 8 they all had a spot to drink milk and get their turn. That and Jake and I started supervising each feeding. Every two hours we'd help Nelli lay down and help each puppy find a spot to drink so the smaller puppies wouldn't get pushed out. A TON of work but the puppies are so much bigger and thriving! They are now almost 5 weeks old and so much fun. Jayli loves to see the puppies every day! She holds their little faces and says "I lub you puppy." It's so adorable to watch her giggle and play with them. They love to climb on her lap and try to lick her face. We are selling them in a week or two when they are weaned and about 7 weeks old.
