Thursday: Travel mostly. We got the girls up at 3 am. We thought we could just put them in the car and they'd go back to sleep. NOPE. Charli started giggling and then they all were laughing. Apparently it was silly to be awake in the middle of the night. :) So no one slept on the way to the airport or at the airport. We got on the plane and calmed down. Charli fell asleep in her car seat until we landed in San Diego. On the long flight to Lihue we gave each of the girls melatonin and they all slept for a couple hours thankfully. We were all so excited when we got off the plane. 6 hours is way too long to be in that small of a space. We got our vans and stopped at Costco for some lunch and groceries on our way to our resort. We took our stuff to our rooms and hit the pool. We noticed Charli had a runny nose that evening. Worse time to start a cold, but she was a trooper. We put the kids to bed early that evening because of the 3 hour time change.
Friday was our biggest day and it started off bad. We were scheduled to go on our big Na Pali coast excursion with the Armstrongs in the morning. So we ate breakfast with everyone in the other condo. About 15 minutes later I'm looking for Kynli to give her an airborne. But I quickly realized I hadn't seen Kynli for awhile and no one else had either. I ran outside and started yelling for her. Jake went one way and I went the other. I was so scared I could hardly breath. I was praying and yelling her name. A man on his balcony heard me and asked if I was looking for a little girl. He said his wife took her to the office because she was running around crying. I took and big breath and felt a little relief. I ran toward the front desk and Jake called me. He had her. She was completely hysterical. I just held her so tight and we walked back to the room to let everyone know she was safe. Apparently she had tried to follow Jake back to our room when he went to grab some butter for the pancakes and he didn't see her. She got turned around and lost in just a few seconds. Thank goodness for nice people willing to help. The problem at that point was that she was still crying holding on to me and we had to leave or we would miss our excursion! So grandma got her distracted and we were able to leave a little late but with enough time.
We called Kynli on the way and she had calmed down. Becky, Leon, the Simpers, and the Catalunas watched Kynli and Charli for us while we went on our Zodiac boat tour. We took Jayli because the age limit was 6 and up. And Andi was there so they had so much fun. The highlight of the ride was all the dolphins we saw! Literally hundreds right up to our raft! We got so many go pro videos and pictures of the dolphins. We also saw humpback whales, turtles, caves, waterfalls and amazing cliffs! The rest of the group took the kids to the beach. They saw lots of fun wildlife too and played in the sand. When we got back we played in the pool and later went to Poipu Beach.
We were in charge of dinner that night. We had Ben and Gil grill chicken and I made fettuccine alfredo. We let the kiddos go out and roast sm'ores provided by the resort and we all went to bed early.
Sunday Charli woke up around 6:30 which was ok because it's 9:30 in Utah. So I walked around the resort with her while everyone slept. She seemed a lot better today. Not much of a runny nose or cough anymore. However Kynli started a runny nose. We got dressed to make it to a local sacrament meeting. Unfortunately when we arrived we found out it was a regional conference and sacrament was an hour later than scheduled. So we went over to glass beach to check that out and Charli fell asleep in the car. After we got back to the resort we went to the pools to swim. Later we fed the kiddos some lunch and took them over to Lydgate park about 30 minutes away. Kynli and Charli both fell asleep in the car. So Jake and Jayli played on the beach for awhile then we switched. Jayli tried the snorkel mask and didn't love it so we collected shells. Charli woke up and played with us. We headed back toward Lihue and got dinner at Panda Express, the girl's favorite place to eat. Afterward we stopped to let the girls pick a souvenir because they were so excited. Lots of cute little shops to choose from. Jayli picked a turtle necklace for $6 and Kynli picked a painted turtle for $4. We played in the pools before we had the girls bathe and go to bed.
Monday another big day. But probably my favorite day. We got up and headed to the other side of the island to play on Tunnels Beach. Hands down the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Crystal clear water, huge green cliffs, palm trees, white sugary sand. Awesome Awesome! We all snorkeled, even Kynli and played in the sand. Kynli loved the waves chasing her up the beach. The fluffy white "hawaii snow" in the waves would disappear around her feet. The waves were incredible. It was actually hard to leave. Charli fell asleep in Jake's arms while we were walking back to the van. We drove through a bunch of cute little towns and got some lunch on the way back at a cute little BBQ shop on the main street. Then we drove over to see Waimea falls and met a nice man and his pet pig spreading love for Jesus. He told us he prayed for a way to make others happy and the next morning he found this pig. So he sits out by this big tourist spot and tells everyone about Jesus. After we got back to the resort we let the girls have s'mores again. Everyone in our group came out and we ended up having a little competition. It first started that the kids were running around. Then Kynli and Tyce wanted to race. Then we had Sadie and Charli race.... Charli ran to Tiff instead of me! Then we had wheelbarrel races with the husbands on their hands. We raced back with the wives on the ground. Everyone had enough laughs that evening I'm sure. We decided to swim and play in the pools. Ben and Gil grilled the burgers and hot dogs. We waited awhile to eat since we had a late lunch. Kynli was a little tired and I made her go to bed early after a melt down about her hot dog bun falling apart. Luckily all the girls have been in good spirits and grateful for such an awesome trip. Not too many tantrums.
Tuesday was our last day. We still got to play all day because our plane didn't leave until 10 that night. We played in the pools and packed up our stuff. We extended one of the condos so we could have a place to shower and let the kids nap. Jake didn't feel well that day. He had fever and chills in the night and that morning. We took some pictures of the group in our Hawaii shirts Jen made for everyone. We spent a lot of the day swimming and eating the rest of the food. It was actually the first time it rained. Not much just a sprinkle but it was so pretty. We had Kyn and Charli take a late nap because we would be at the airport late. We got some dinner at costco before we headed to the airport. We didn't have to wait long before we could get on the plane. Charli fell asleep within the first 30 min because we put her in her carseat. Kyn and J stayed up for about an hour and then fell asleep too. I had to hold one of them because Charli isn't old enough to have to pay for a seat. Poor J was so tired and uncomfortable. I switched Kyn and Charli places so Kyn could be a little more comfortable in the carseat. When we landed we were able to keep everyone asleep and they slept the whole 3 hour layover in the airport! I absolutely couldn't believe it. Such a HUGE blessing. Jake and I also got about an hour rest because the girls all slept. Everyone woke up about 5 minutes before we had to board and got a little breakfast. The last plane ride home was only about hour and half. We were so glad to be done flying when we arrived in SLC. Got all our bags and said bye to everyone. That night we all went to bed EARLY! Like 6:30! It took up awhile to adjust back to Utah time but after a week everyone was sleeping normal again. Such an incredible trip! I needed to document this well so I could remember all the details.
